SPOILER ALERT!!
Seriously, stop reading if you don't want to know.
The movie spoiled my evening.
I love Sam Raimi. I do, but....
Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness was a multiverse of bad ideas and muddled storyteller.
Here's my review in a nutshell:
They put too much in. Make a few edits Sam! Take things out that obviously aren't working. The whole "Hell's Minions" thing wasted 15 minutes that could have been taken out completely.
This is not Dr. Strange's movie, it's Wanda's story and Wanda's story is Sooooooooo boring. Boo Hoo, want my kids Boo-freakin-Hoo.
The lead actress (Xochitl Gomez) did a passable job, but not spectacular. And putting her with two-moms and a rainbow flag pin was a cheap way to score points and bad story telling. If you are introducing the "torn away from mom" story, you have to finish it. She never talked about them again in any meaningful way and it's a distraction.
Prediction - Avatar - The Way of the Water will make a ton of money but will "under-perform" because they will pack it so full of political messaging and virtue signaling that it will be unbearable. Marvel is heading the same direction.
Another Prediction: Black Adam with Dwayne (I'll kiss up to China) Johnson will be awful. Because he's awful. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Back to DS&TMOM - The title "Illuminati" is totally F'd up. I know there's a comic book that ships the Illuminati into the Marvel universe, but F-U, they screwed this up.
The Illuminati is a shadow organization that leads the world from within the halls of power in secrecy.
- They are NOT the good guys (superheroes)
- They DO NOT come out publicly
- Jim from the office is NOT a superhero (again, so easy to kill - is there a spaghetti spell?)
- And the guy with a tuning fork on his forehead was so easy to kill that it was laughable.
- And, WTF??? Doctor Xavier's wheelchair was the size of a VW Bug. Why is his wheelchair tech so bad when they have wizards and witches, magic, and technology that lets you fly to the stars?
